The combination of HP 8922M with the HP 83220E and a new firmware forms a complete Dual-Band (GSM 900/ DCS 1800) Test Solution. All original features are retained but now, with dual-band intra-cell handover capability, the newer GSM mobiles can be tested seamlessly, at all frequencies, through a single RF connector.
Description of HP 8922H/83220E:
The HP 8922H GSM Test Set (HP 8922M with opt. 010) is an integrated test solution for the production and servicing of GSM and DCS-1800 radios. The HP 8922H is a tool box with the necessary hardware to test the RF characteristic of GSM radios. The HP 8922 contains a complete set of instrumentation for testing the RF sections of GSM radios. In addition to the frequency-agile 0.3 GSMK RF generator, the RF analyzer has an agile local oscillator, coherent data demodulator, pulse demodulator, FM demodulator, global method analyzer for phase and frequency error, synthesized spectrum analyzer (optional), and pulsed power meter. The 8922 G adds a bit-error-rate tester (BERT) for performing GSM receiver measurements, channel CODEC for speech encoding and decoding, and call control protocol to set up a phone call and maintain the link while performing measurements. Echo mode is facilitated by the voice CODEC for functional testing of a mobile, and the electrical man-machine interface (EMMI) is implemented for controlling the mobile and supporting the digital audio interface (DAI). Besides this complement of GSM-specific instruments, the HP 8922 contains general-purpose tools useful for module test, troubleshooting, and debugging activities. These tools include a digital oscilloscope, a CW RF frequency counter, a CW RF power meter, an AC voltmeter, a DC voltmeter, a 1 kHz distortion/SINAD meter, an audio frequency counter, and a synthesized audio source. The combination of these capabilities makes the HP 8922 an extraordinarily powerful tool for the manufacture and installation of GSM radio equipment. Specifications: RF Generator: Frequency range 10 MHz to 1000 MHz; resolution 1 Hz. RF Analyzer: Frequency range 10 MHz to 1000 MHz; resolution 1 Hz (100 kHz in hop mode). Spectrum Analyzer: Frequency range 10 MHz to 1000 MHz; display range: 80 dB (option 006 - NOT INCLUDED; available for extra charge) Digital Oscilloscope: Frequency range 2 Hz to 50 kHz; sweep times 10 µs to 100 ms in 1, 2, 5, 10 steps Audio Analyzer: Frequency range 20 Hz to 400 kHz Audio Source: Frequency range DC to 25 kHz Remote programming HPIB: IEEE488.2 Remote programming RS232: 300, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 and 19200 baud.
The HP 83220E DCS/PCS Test Set expands the capabilities of the HP 8922 to comprehensively test DCS 1800 and PCS 1900 equipment. DCS 1800 mobile radios across the band 1805 MHz to 1880 MHz and PCS mobile radios across the band 1930 MHz to 1990 MHz. The HP 83220E when configured with the HP 8922H can establish and maintain a DCS 1800/ PCS 1900 link. Once a link has been established, comprehensive tests can be run across the mobile DCS 1800/ PCS 1900 band, without interrupting that link.
